The selection of materials for charging gun connection bases offers several options, with PET, PBT, and PA all being considered by plastic manufacturers. While many customers prioritize a PA + GF + FR (Polyamide + Glass Fiber + Flame Retardant) formulation for its overall performance, PBT+FR becomes the superior choice when dimensional stability and minimal shrinkage are critical. A PET material selection program is also a viable alternative. Charging gun materials must pass rigorous tests, including mechanical, temperature resistance, flame retardant, and electrical performance testing. PBT, a thermoplastic polyester, is exceptionally suited for this application. Its advantages are numerous: excellent mechanical properties, high insulation, cost-effectiveness, strong weather resistance, and superior thermal performance make it an ideal material for the plugs and sockets of charging guns. For the connection base specifically, if the preferred PA+GF+FR solution is not suitable, the PBT material selection plan is straightforward: PBT+FR is the first choice, followed by PBT reinforced with 15-30% glass fiber and flame retardant (PBT+GF15-30+FR) for enhanced strength.
